MÉS per Mallorca denounces the "setback" of LGTBI rights and displays flags in the Parliament and the Council
The formation criticizes the PP and Vox for "emptying of content" equality policies, and accuses the City Council, the Council and the Parliament of symbolic gestures without real commitment.
PalmaMÉS per Mallorca has denounced this Saturday, coinciding with International LGTBI Pride Day, what it considers a "worrying and sustained setback" in public policies for the defense of the collective's rights in the Balearic Islands. The eco-sovereignist party has unfurled LGTBI flags on the facades of the Palma City Council, the Consell de Mallorca, and the Balearic Parliament as a symbolic act of protest against the management of the People's Party governments with the support of Vox.
According to the party, equality policies have lost institutional weight and have been replaced by gestures that it describes as "purely symbolic," with a reduction in support, visibility, and resources allocated to both the LGTBI collective and the entities that work with them.
In the case of the Palma City Council, MÉS criticizes the break with the entity Ben Amics and the new municipal Pride program, which includes a festive activity that the LGTBI movement has described as "tourist bait" and an example of "pinkwashing". The party considers that this change means breaking the model of collaboration with the associative fabric that had been maintained until now.
The Consell de Mallorca has also been subject to criticism. MÉS accuses the island's president, Llorenç Galmés, of "institutional posturing" for having placed the LGTBI flag inside the institution solely to take a photograph and removing it shortly after. The party sees this as a gesture "without continuity or real commitment."
Regarding the Balearic Parliament, MÉS denounces that the Chamber is failing for the third consecutive year to comply with the Bureau's agreement to hang the LGTBI flag on the facade for Pride, a situation it considers especially serious in an institution that represents the citizenry.
The party maintains that these episodes demonstrate a "change in political direction" that weakens the active defense of human rights and calls for the recovery of an equality agenda with more budget, stability, and collaboration with the LGTBI associative fabric.
Finally, MÉS per Mallorca has called for participation in the Pride demonstration scheduled for this Sunday in Palma and has rejected the municipal initiative in the form of "tourist bait," which it considers an empty replacement for the day's reivindicative character.
