The Government frames the dismissal of the SOIB director and the general director of Tourism as "normal".
The Governing Council has accepted the resignations of Ismael Alonso and Josep Aloy
PalmThe Balearic Government accepted two high-profile resignations this Friday. The director of the Balearic Islands Employment Service (SOIB), Ismael Alonso, resigned just three months after taking office. In addition, the director general of Tourism, Josep Aloy, also stepped down, according to the government, for "personal reasons." Government spokesperson Antoni Costa described these departures as "perfectly normal," despite the fact that staff changes have been a constant feature of this legislative term. Before the government reshuffle, there was a change in the organizational chart per weekAs reported by ARA Baleares.
"The functioning of a community requires many management positions," Costa said. "It is true that there have been unavoidable departures: in Aloy's case, it was a decision we knew from the beginning of the legislature, completely agreed upon," he continued. "Otherwise, they are personal decisions." Aloy will be replaced by Miquel Rosselló Jiménez as the new head of the Directorate General of Tourism, and María Luján Oliver will take over from Alonso at the SOIB (Balearic Islands Employment Service).
Alonso, a controversial figure
Ismael Alonso has stepped down as Director General of Teaching Staff and Subsidized Schools, a position he had held since January 2024. He entered the role "with the clear objective that subsidized schools be treated with the same respect as public schools," according to his resignation letter to the Minister of Labor, Catalina Cabrer, which has been published on social media. He was also Director of Educational Planning, Organization, and Infrastructure, an area that, with the reorganization of the Education Department in January 2024, was divided among different positions. Union sources claim that, despite his affable nature, they never considered him entirely suitable for the position. Cabrer arrived at the Ministry of Education in Cardassar (Mallorca) during one of the busiest times of the year for Teaching Staff: competitive examinations, assignment of positions for substitute teachers, and preparations for the 2025-2026 academic year.
