The Menorca monolith, included in the Catalogue of elements contrary to democratic memory
The Commission of Experts has decided to include in the catalog the pyramid of the Italians (Burgos) and the lintel of Baños de Ebro
PalmaThe Maó monolith, erected in 1939 and located in the Plaça de l'Esplanada, has been included in the Catalogue of symbols and elements contrary to democratic memory. This was announced by the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres. The Technical Commission of Experts has also decided to include in the catalogue the pyramid of the Italians (Burgos) and the lintel of Baños de Ebro (Aàlaba).

"We must ensure that future generations do not inherit public spaces where these vestiges exalt the opposite of what we are: a democratic people," said the minister. The monument in the Menorcan city, which was erected "in memory of those who fell for God and for Spain in the holy crusade against communism" and which now faces demolition, will thus be added to that of La Feixina, which last March was included in the same register.
The decision, however, was made on the same day that the Palma City Council granted it the highest possible heritage protection and it is pending the resolution of an appeal.
