PalmaThe mayors and municipal candidates of the PP in the Balearic Islands have demanded the improvement of public services and the strengthening of security, while also placing the reduction of taxes among their main priorities ahead of the general elections on November 29th. The party's municipal representatives demonstrated their unity and support for the Popular Party's candidates for Congress and the Senate this Thursday with the reading of a joint manifesto in defense of Alberto Núñez Feijóo's project, within the framework of the visit of the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida.
The document outlines eight major lines of action that, according to the PP, should mark the policies of the future Spanish government. Among these are access to affordable housing, the reduction of fiscal pressure, the improvement of public services, the strengthening of security, support for the self-employed and local commerce, among others, all while advocating for a tax cut. The manifesto in question comes in a context in which the party defends the management of its institutional positions in the Balearic Islands and demands more resources and investments for the Islands from the state government.
The spokesperson for the Balearic PP, Jaume Ferriol, has defended that mayors are the political officials who maintain the most direct contact with the citizenry and that, for this reason, they know their concerns firsthand. "The future of our municipalities is also decided in Madrid and we need a government that listens to the Balearic Islands, fulfills its commitments and responds to the needs of our citizens," he said.
Sánchez at the center of criticism
During the event, Ferriol contrasted the PP's project with that of Pedro Sánchez's executive, whom he accused of not having provided a response to the needs of the Islands. The spokesperson stated that the party offers a model that, according to him, is already demonstrating its management capacity in the town councils and in Marga Prohens' Government.
The mayors and municipal candidates also expressed their support for the party's aspirants to the two state chambers and defended the need for the Islands to have representatives who know the reality of the municipalities. The goal, according to the manifesto, is for the demands of the villages and cities of the archipelago to have more weight in the decisions that are made in Madrid. Ferriol positioned the November 29th elections as an opportunity to open a new political stage with Feijóo at the helm of the Spanish government. "November 29th is the moment to move from promises to deeds, from failures to fulfill to management," he concluded.
Almeida holds up Prohens and Martínez as models of PP management
For his part, the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, positioned the Balearic Islands this Friday as "the best example that another way of governing is possible" and vindicated the management of Marga Prohens in the Government and Jaime Martínez in the Palma City Council as models that Alberto Núñez Feijóo should take as a reference if he reaches the Moncloa. Almeida made these statements during a pre-campaign event in Palma in support of the popular candidates for Congress and the Senate for the elections on November 29th.
"PSOE policies fail where those of the PP succeed," asserted the Madrid mayor, as reported by the party in a press release. Almeida argued that the Prohens executive has demonstrated that it is possible to manage education, healthcare, and security, as well as address problems such as squatting and access to housing. He also praised the management of Jaime Martínez in Palma, a city that, according to him, "works, has good public services, and a government team that cares about the day-to-day life of the citizens." Almeida also defended an "essential national reconstruction so that Spain can function again."
