PalmaThe Socialist Group at the Council of Mallorca accuses the island president, Llorenç Galmés, of having turned the institution's participation in the World Travel Market (WTM) in London into a "political marketing operation." The Socialists believe that the tourism promotion and the presentation of the report on illegal listings contrast with the saturation the island is suffering.
Socialist councilor Andreu Serra has criticized the Council for announcing in London that it has removed 9,472 illegal tourist listings. In his view, the report does not demonstrate effective results: he reproaches the island government for not having communicated how many files have expired and maintains that no closures of establishments operating irregularly have been carried out. He also stated that some listings remain available on other platforms after being removed.
The data the Council presented at the British tourism fair corresponds to the period between August 2024 and September 2026. The institution also reported that this year it has opened 76 protocols declaring activity illegal, 69 of which have ended with an immediate cease-and-desist order. Serra questions whether these measures have translated into the effective closure of the establishments.
The Socialist island councilor has also criticized the size of the institutional delegation sent to London, which he described as "enormous." As he pointed out, it included a delegation from the Mallorca Fire Department that distributed pamphlets on the street, according to information released by the Council itself.
Serra has also accused Galmés of using the fair to make announcements in the middle of the pre-campaign for the November 29 elections. The PSIB maintains that institutions must refrain from acts of electoral self-promotion and asks the president to focus efforts on tourist saturation and the control of illegal supply.
The Socialist criticism comes after theCouncil presented at the WTM the report on removals and promoted Mallorca as a winter destination.
