PalmThe tactic is well known, but also effective: present a law that is copied from another party to put them on the spot when it comes to voting. This is what the PSIB has done this Tuesday in the Parliament with the bill to regulate the influx of vehicles to Mallorca. A text that, according to socialist deputy Amanda Fernández, is 95% the same as the one the PP drafted in the Consell de Mallorca. The popular party has not disappointed and has voted against their initiative, which will not be processed. This is not simply a matter of bureaucracy, but this decision implies that Mallorca will end the legislature without any measures to improve mobility and reduce saturation. All this, despite it being the star proposal of the president of the insular institution, Llorenç Galmés, forced by his dependence on Vox to contradict his word.

Despite the PSIB making it clear that they had copied the PP's bill to "facilitate its processing", the first thing that popular deputy Margalida Pocoví did was to accuse the socialists of being copycats, while the PP benches applauded and cheered her on. Furthermore, Pocoví attacked the socialist's 5% share because, as she criticized, the law singles out and accuses residents of abusive use of private transport. The requests from the socialists and MÉS per Mallorca to reach a consensus on the law have been in vain, because what was voted on this Tuesday was only the admission to processing of the law, during which modifications could have been introduced. The PP has completely shut down the law to work on this limitation of vehicles in Mallorca.

While the PP's narrative has been an enumeration of the Consell de Mallorca government's efforts to regulate vehicle entry to the island, the opposition has recalled one by one the popular party's promises in this regard, including that of the President of the Government, Marga Prohens. These commitments have culminated in the extinction of the initiative thanks to PP and Vox.

As for the far-right, María José Verdú's intervention has been based on confusing mobility with mobility by car, so that limiting vehicle entry implies for the Vox representative affecting the fundamental right of Spaniards to move freely throughout the State's territory. Verdú has presented an apocalyptic view of the application of vehicle limitation in Ibiza and, after stating that Mallorca "is a city," she warned those present: "There is no guarantee that a Spanish family will not be prohibited from entering the Balearic Islands with their car."

Verdú was visibly affected by the reproaches of the MÉS per Mallorca deputy Ferran Rosa, who denounced that the Government's containment and de-seasonality measures are transforming the island into "a territory saturated 365 days a year." "Prohens now has the epiphany of the powers that be, of real estate agencies and car rentals, of keeping Vox's partners happy. The national priority is to spend an hour in the car to get to Sóller," Rosa ironically remarked.
