PalmOn July 31st, between 8 pm and 10 pm, marches against the genocide of the Palestinian people will be held in 42 towns in Mallorca and four neighborhoods in Palma. The initiative, promoted by the organization Palestina Lliure (Palestine Free), is supported by Mallorca for Peace. "In October, the cruelest episode since the creation of the State of Israel will have begun two years in Gaza. It is now unquestionable that this state is carrying out a genocide of the Palestinian people, a massacre that we can watch day after day," the organizing organizations state. "The pain and helplessness we feel in the face of the passivity of those who could have stopped it has been the reason for the action announced today. We will take to the streets at the same time to show our solidarity with the Palestinian people and demand that this devastation and the complicity of these states be halted immediately."

The initiative was born when a couple of women, inspired by the international March for Gaza movement—which began on June 13 in Egypt and "was repressed and frustrated"—felt it was important to propose a march to Mallorca to show solidarity with the Palestinian people. Initially, the proposal was raised at the assembly organized by Mallorca for Peace on June 21, and later at an assembly open to all interested parties on July 4 in Montuïri.

Organizational Process

From there, "an intense process of hard work began to connect people from many communities, from the grassroots level, always guided by the principles of the global march, dignity, and peace," the organizers explain. "The response has been magnificent, demonstrating the power of self-organized citizens when we want to and believe in what we do," they add. To this end, local groups have been created in Montuïri, Algaida, and Manacor, among other municipalities, with the active participation of around 40 people.

"We want to emphasize an essential characteristic: the presence and responsibility of a majority of women in daily work. Feminism hates war and has a clear objective in these times of warmongering and hatred: peace and life, as our motto says. This will be a one-time action, but we want it to continue so that the immense work carried out bears fruit in the face of so much injustice," the organizations point out.
