PalmaBetween January and May, a total of 508 people died in the Balearic Islands who were on the waiting list for assessment or for the perception of benefits as dependents. In the same period, the number of beneficiaries in the Archipelago increased by 0.9%, while the state average was 2.9%.

Throughout Spain, 13,503 people died while on dependency waiting lists in the first five months of the year, a delay to which 7,293 more people have been added compared to the end of 2025. Currently, the figure reaches 265,503 people, among whom there are those who have not yet had their requested assessment or who do not receive the services to which they are entitled.

By the end of May, the number of people on the lists for assessment or perception of benefits in the Balearic Islands totaled 6,058, and the volume of applicants awaiting assessment has decreased by 12.3%.

According to the report compiled by the Association of Directors and Managers in Social Services, with data from Imserso at the end of May 2026, of the 265,503 people on waiting lists, 110,108 are awaiting assessment (41.5%) and 155,352 are awaiting recognized benefits and services (58.5%).

Regarding deaths, 6,940 people were awaiting assessment and 6,563 were awaiting the benefit to which they were entitled. Almost half of the 13,503 deaths occurred in Catalonia (4,342) and Andalusia (2,204). The region with the fewest deaths was Galicia (34). Until May, the number of people attended to has increased by 47,323 compared to the end of 2025, but with lower-cost services, such as the benefit for care in the family environment or telecare.

The average time from application to resolution of the file is 203 days, exceeding the stipulated period of six months (180 days).
