Economics professor Eugeni Aguiló dies in the waters of Cala Blava
Aguiló, a resident of the area, drowned while swimming.

PalmProfessor and former dean of the Faculty of Economics at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), Eugeni Aguiló i Pérez (Palma, 1946), died this Sunday afternoon while swimming in Cala Blava (Llucmajor). Aguiló, 79, a local resident, was swimming when he drowned and had to be pulled from the water.
Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene to assist him, but despite CPR, the victim did not survive. The Civil Guard has taken over the investigation.
A graduate and doctor in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Barcelona, Aguiló has completed postgraduate studies in Industrial Economics at the London School of Economics. He also served as director of the Department of Economics and Business Administration and as dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration.
In 1997, he was appointed President of the Board of Trustees of the Cabrera Maritime-Terrestrial National Park. Director of the Master's Degree in Tourism Management at the UIB, he specialized in industrial economics, cost-benefit analysis, and tourism economics. He published several works in journals such asAnnals of Tourism Research,Spanish Economic Papers,Tourist ReviewandICE Economics Notebooks, and directed, coordinated and collaborated in a large number of planning studies (White Paper on Tourism in the Balearic Islands,Input-output tables of the Balearic Islands, Balearic Islands Marketing PlanandWhite Paper on Spanish Tourism).
