Alarm at Ibiza airport: closed for 35 minutes and four flights cancelled due to a drone
They have diverted flights to Palma and Barcelona for security
PalmaThe sighting of a drone in the vicinity of Ibiza Airport forced a temporary interruption of air activity this Tuesday for security reasons and the diversion of four flights to other destinations.
According to Aena, the unmanned aerial vehicle was detected near the airport facilities, which activated security protocols and forced operations to be halted for 35 minutes.
During this time, air traffic was completely stopped at the Ibiza airport, while the situation was reviewed and conditions were guaranteed to resume activity normally.
The incident caused the diversion of four flights: two were redirected to Palma Airport and the other two to Barcelona.
Once the restriction was lifted, operations gradually resumed and the airport returned to normal operation, according to the same sources.
The incident adds to other recent episodes in which the presence of drones in the vicinity of critical infrastructure has forced the activation of security protocols and the temporary interruption of airport activity.
