PalmThe Balearic Islands Federation of Health and Social Services Sectors of the CCOO union has warned of a new collapse in the Emergency Department of Son Espases University Hospital, where more than 70 patients are awaiting admission to a ward. According to a statement released by the union, this situation is creating a "significant backlog in care," with patients remaining for hours in the Emergency Department waiting for a hospital bed. This, CCOO pointed out, directly impacts the quality of care and safety conditions for both patients and staff. The union deemed it "unacceptable" that the hospital is keeping resources idle while the department is overcrowded. "It is not normal to have dozens of patients waiting for admission when there are beds that should be made available immediately," the statement read.

Furthermore, it warned that this situation is causing an "extreme overload" in all professional categories – nursing, medical staff, nursing assistants, orderlies, administrative staff, and non-medical personnel – who are working "under constant pressure" and in "increasingly difficult" conditions.

Sources from CCOO have demanded that the management of Son Espases Hospital open the necessary beds to alleviate the pressure in the emergency department, provide an immediate reinforcement of staff, and adopt structural measures to prevent this type of collapse from recurring periodically.

The union does not rule out taking further action if solutions are not adopted that guarantee dignified and safe care for patients and adequate working conditions for professionals.
