The Manacor City Council will once again close Joan Lliteres Street and Cós Square to traffic "to gain public space and boost local businesses during the Christmas and Sant Antoni festivities." Starting this Friday, December 19, and continuing until January 19, these two public spaces will have restrictions on motorized vehicle traffic. According to the City Council, "this is a measure that has already been successfully implemented in recent years during specific periods and is being reinstated this year with a more refined system, based on accumulated experience." The City Council warns that ignoring the barrier will result in a fine. However, "the aim is not to issue fines but to raise awareness that a city center with less traffic offers improved quality of life, safety, and comfort for everyone." The Local Police will also reinforce their presence along the entire stretch of both Joan Lliteres Street and Cós Square. Joan Lliteres Street

The Mobility Delegate, Sebastià Llodrà, highlighted that Joan Lliteres Street "is one of the main commercial axes of the municipality, connecting the station with the pedestrian center. With this measure, we are reinforcing its role as a key commercial and civic space."

Information about street closures in Manacor

To effectively manage traffic, the fixed barrier at the beginning of the street will only be open from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to facilitate loading and unloading. Outside of these hours, residents of the street can access their homes via the side streets.

The Plaza del Cós

In Plaça del Cós, vehicular traffic will not be permitted from Plaça del Rector Rubí. However, access via Carrer del Párroco Caldentey will remain open, as usual, to facilitate access to the magenta zones of high-turnover commercial parking and exit through the same square, except on market day, when the area will be completely closed to traffic. Plaça del Cós is a pedestrian-heavy area. Vehicles must respect the maximum speed limit of 20 km/h, and both electric scooters and bicycles may only travel in the authorized direction. Underground parking and magenta zone

The City Council also reminds residents that both Plaça de Sant Jaume and Na Camel·la offer underground parking with two hours of free parking, designed to facilitate shopping, strolling, and everyday life in the city center with greater peace of mind. It is also worth noting that there are 50 high-turnover commercial parking spaces (magenta zone) located on Carrer de la Amargura, Plaça del Rector Rubí, Carrer del Rector Caldentey, Plaça del Arquitecto Bennàssar, Carrer Olesa, Carrer del Príncipe, and Plaça de la Constitució (Plaça de les Verduras). These spaces in the magenta zone are designed for high-turnover commercial activity and operate at a rate of only €0.10 per hour, with a maximum parking time of 60 minutes during business hours. This initiative ensures that spaces are available for new users and prevents vehicles from staying longer than necessary.
