MenorcaThe Ciutadella City Council will maintain the legal battle to prevent the return of cars to Plaça del Born. The Council has stated that it will "exhaust all judicial options" after learning of the order for the immediate execution of the precautionary measure that requires the restoration of vehicle access to this central area of the city.

The decision comes after the Superior Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands annulled, last May, the proceedings related to the redevelopment of the square. The origin of the litigation is the appeal filed by 22 merchants and individuals, who requested precautionary measures against the traffic changes. The judicial order partially upholds them and orders that cars can circulate again through El Born.

Given this situation, the City Council will file a motion for reconsideration against the order. It will be resolved by the same magistrate who, last November, denied the precautionary measures in the first instance. In parallel, the Council is also preparing an appeal to the Supreme Court, which must be filed before the sentence becomes final on June 18.

The government team has emphasized that it will comply with judicial resolutions, but has also made it clear that it will use all available resources to defend "a Born without cars." According to the Council, the traffic redevelopment is within its powers regarding mobility and municipal ordinances on traffic and public space occupation.

The City Council states that it wants to keep the channel of dialogue open with the representatives of the plaintiffs, but insists that it will continue to defend the work done in transforming the square. El Born has thus become one of the points of debate on the mobility model in the center of Ciutadella, between the municipal desire to reduce the presence of vehicles and the reluctance of some affected merchants and individuals.
