Spectacular calabrujada in the area of Artà and Capdepera
The Emergency Services have recommended checking the weather forecast and road conditions before setting out.
Rain and a drop in temperature have returned to Mallorca, especially to the northeast of the island, where sleet has blanketed Capdepera and Cala Rajada in white. After the temperature plummeted and the freezing water created striking images, the tourist center of Capdepera shows the effects of the storm in this part of Mallorca.
Sleet on the road
The Balearic Islands Emergency Service has urged caution, especially on the roads, due to heavy snowfall in the area of the Capdepera-Son Servera and Artà-Capdepera roads. Currently, about fifteen workers are clearing the roads with three snowplows. The Emergency Service recommends checking the weather forecast and road conditions before setting out, ensuring a full tank of fuel and a charged mobile phone, avoiding driving unless absolutely necessary, and prioritizing main roads.
They have also recommended avoiding braking on icy sections of road, driving cautiously if encountering ice or snow, using low-beam headlights, avoiding sudden maneuvers, and, if unable to continue driving, staying inside the vehicle with the engine and heater running and a window slightly open. Emergency services have issued several alerts for the severe weather forecast for Wednesday. Menorca is under an orange alert, while the rest of the Canary Islands are under a yellow alert for coastal phenomena.
In addition, Menorca and Mallorca are under a yellow alert for wind, rain, storms, and hail. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has also issued an orange alert for coastal phenomena in northern Mallorca, between 6 p.m. and midnight, and throughout Menorca, all day long. A yellow alert for the same reasons is in effect in the Pitiusas Islands and the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, and will be in effect from 3 p.m. in the Levante region of Mallorca. Menorca is also under a yellow alert for wind gusts that could reach 80 kilometers per hour.
