PalmSome 160 people have required assistance from the emergency social assistance program launched by Ibiza City Council following the heavy rains on Tuesday, which ended Thursday morning.

During the three days of operation, 65 adults used the overnight service provided at the Fairgrounds, with an average of 45 people per night, according to the City Council on Friday.

The Councilor for Social Welfare, Lola Penín, explained that the dinner service has been one of the "most requested" resources, with around 100 people served each night and up to 130 on Wednesdays, the day on which the NGO World Central Kitchen joined the operation alongside the Red Cross.

Two emergency places were also activated at the Municipal Reception Center (CAM), and two referrals were made to the low-demand center in Sa Joveria.

On Wednesday, in coordination with Civil Protection, two social assessment teams visited settlements in different parts of the city and in the Feixes area. During this intervention, a family with an elderly woman and a pregnant woman were rescued, and they were referred to the emergency residential program.

Likewise, the three municipal Social Work Units (UTS) offered hostel accommodation to families with minors who could not stay at home and lacked resources. So far, two families have been welcomed through this program, which will remain active until next Monday, October 6.

For its part, the Eixample social work unit activated the emergency protocol for rapid social assessments, in coordination with the Red Cross, which collaborated in the distribution of blankets and essential items to 32 people.
