Fight against tourist saturation: Son Servera launches resident-only parking
The new restricted parking zones come into effect this May 1st in Cala Millor and Cala Bona to prioritize residents
PalmSon Servera says enough is enough and is launching a forceful measure to curb the overcrowding of rental cars in the municipality and the serious parking problems that worsen each tourist season. The pressure on public space, especially in Cala Millor and Cala Bona, has pushed the City Council to act with specific regulations for residents.
The new ordinance, approved in the plenary session in April, comes into effect this May 1 with the implementation of Restricted Access Zones (ZAR). These are three points in the municipality where parking is reserved exclusively for authorized vehicles.
The Councilor for Mobility and Police, Bernat Grimalt, describes a critical situation that has been dragging on for years. “The pressure we suffer from rental cars in the middle of the tourist season is a real problem and Son Servera has suffered from major parking problems for years”, he remarked. In this regard, he defends that the measure represents a turning point: “Now we are getting down to work for the first time in history. It will not be a definitive solution, but it is very close to being a real solution for the residents of the municipality. If the regulations are respected by 80%, the change will be very noticeable”.
Residents registered with vehicles weighing less than 3,500 kg and with circulation tax paid in Son Servera, or vehicles under renting or leasing agreements, will be able to park in the ZARs. Authorizations are free, valid for four years, and can be requested until June 30, online or in person at the municipal OACs.
