PalmaThe Governing Board of Palma City Council has approved commissioning the company Urbia Intermediación, ingeniería y servicios SA to carry out the restoration works on the roofs of the towers of the Olivar market. The project has a budget of 256,157.04 euros, VAT included, and a scheduled execution period of six months.
As explained by the deputy spokesperson for Cort, Llorenç Bauzà, in a press conference, following the approval of the basic and execution project, this new agreement allows for progress towards the completion of the work, which aims to improve the state of conservation of the roofs of the market's two towers.
The works are part of the technical assistance and maintenance service contract for municipal buildings and Infant and Primary education centers of Palma City Council, specifically in the lot corresponding to maintenance and investment, replacement, renovation, and remodeling actions.
This intervention is in addition to other actions planned at the Olivar market to continue improving the facilities and ensuring their conservation. Among these is the repair of the overhang of one of the roofs, with a budget of 119,000 euros and an execution period of three months.
In addition, the Board has approved the order for the supply of furniture and children's playground equipment planned in the improvement project for Femu Park. The contract was awarded to the company Acciona Medi Ambient, for an amount of 115,320 euros, VAT included, and has an execution period of eight weeks. The renovation of the children's area of this park pays special attention to the needs of children with neurodevelopmental difficulties, Bauzà explained. To this end, new elements and resources are being incorporated to encourage different forms of play, exploration, and interaction, and to facilitate the participation of all minors, regardless of their abilities and needs.
On the other hand, the Board also approved this Wednesday the call for grants for carrying out various activities in Palma's educational centers during the 2026-2027 academic year, with a total budget of 66,000 euros. The aid will be distributed in four categories. The first is aimed at school theater, the second includes school and extracurricular activities, the third category is intended for family training, and the fourth line of aid will allow for the optimization of school playgrounds to make them more inclusive, participatory, and dynamic.
