PalmThe citizen platform 'Mallorca to live, not to speculate' has started a collection of signatures to demand that Palma City Council oppose the application of the Land Acquisition Act in the municipality, approved by the PP and Vox, and prevent "the door from opening to excessive macro-urbanization" of the city. According to the entity in a statement reported by Efe, this new legislation, processed under the declaration of residential emergency, will allow a massive increase in building capacity on rural land, without sufficient planning in terms of public services, such as health centers, transportation, schools and green areas. The document emphasizes that the new law could translate, in Palma alone, into an increase of up to 130,000 new residents—which would represent a 30% population increase—and the loss of more than 360 hectares of rural land, an area more than double the city's historic center.
"While Ms. Prohens talks about sustainability as a solution to overcrowding, the PP and Vox are passing a law that promotes the exact opposite: uncontrolled urban growth, more tourism, more density, and more transportation and infrastructure problems," the platform warned, denouncing recent attempts to purchase rural land even before the regulations were passed.
