Orange alert for rain this Wednesday in Mallorca

PalmMallorca will be under an orange warning for rain and thunderstorms this Wednesday, with the possibility of some locally heavy or very heavy showers with thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon.

According to information from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the interior, south, and east of Mallorca will be under an orange warning for rain this Wednesday between 12:00 and 17:59, which could accumulate up to 50 millimeters in one hour. The rest of Mallorca will face the day with yellow warnings for rain, which could accumulate up to 30 millimeters in one hour. Ibiza and Formentera will also be under a yellow warning for rain and storms between 12:00 and 17:59.

The IG of the Meteobal plan has been activated.

The Balearic Islands' 112 Emergency Service has activated Severity Index 1 (IG-1) of the Meteobal Plan in Mallorca due to rain and storms expected this Wednesday. It has also activated IG-0 of the same plan due to rain and storms in the Pitiusas.

The advice, if you are at home, is to secure doors and windows to prevent water from entering; do not leave objects or furniture that could be swept away by the water; do not go down to flood zones; and, if the house floods, turn off the main electricity switch. If you are driving, the emergency service recommended that drivers reduce their speed, maintain a safe distance, and stick to main roads. Finally, it reminded drivers of the importance of following these self-protection tips to stay safe; as well as that in any emergency, it is necessary to call 112.
