PalmManacor-born tennis player Rafael Nadal will be awarded an honorary doctorate by the Polytechnic University of Madrid this Tuesday, the highest academic distinction granted by the institution. The ceremony will take place at 5:00 p.m. in the Rectorate and will be presided over by Rector Óscar García Suárez.

The university has justified the appointment as recognition of Navidad's career, whom they consider "the best Spanish athlete of all time." In this regard, they highlight his 22 Grand Slam titles, his time as world number one, and his two Olympic gold medals, among other sporting achievements. Beyond his on-field accomplishments, the UPM also emphasizes the projection of Navidad's personal values, such as effort, perseverance, and commitment, which, according to the institution, make him a role model both within and beyond the sporting arena. These principles, they stress, align with the values the university seeks to transmit to society. This recognition adds to what he already received last year from the University of Salamanca, which also awarded him an honorary doctorate, thus consolidating the academic recognition of one of the most important figures in world sport.
