PalmSóller City Council has updated its measures for water conservation and responsible use and has also imposed restrictions on tourist establishments. Initially, the regulations only reported restrictions for individuals, but this Thursday they issued an updated decree detailing several measures that directly affect hotels, vacation rental homes, bars, restaurants, and cafes.

This Wednesday, the City Council met with hoteliers. The Sóller City Council's Great Hall hosted another meeting with industry representatives to advance "the common goal of optimizing water consumption and addressing the drought the municipality is experiencing." At the meeting, marked by the urgency of the situation, "even stricter and immediate collaboration" was called for. The Mayor, Miquel Nadal, emphasized that "it is essential that major consumers continue to be involved in this collective effort. The efforts of everyone, including the tourism sector, are key to guaranteeing water supply to all citizens."

According to the regulations approved this Thursday, these tourist establishments are prohibited from filling swimming pools with water from the municipal network; they are prohibited from watering gardens and green areas; cleaning vehicles and boats is also prohibited, and cleaning terraces and facades is limited to strictly necessary cases, such as safety or health reasons.

Furthermore, they stressed that these establishments dedicated to the tourism sector must commit to incorporating water-saving systems, informing and raising awareness among customers about the importance of responsible use and using washing machines and dishwashers only when they are full.

In addition, they have taken advantage of the decree to remind them that the municipal ordinance prohibits the supply or reuse of water from the municipal network for sale, which constitutes a serious violation that can lead to immediate interruption of service, subject to authorization from the competent regional ministry. In other words, filtered water from the municipal network cannot be sold.

It should be remembered that on September 1, the Sóller City Council already announced the closure of the municipal swimming pool and imposed a series of restrictions on citizens. These initially did not affect tourist establishments, but four days later, they decided to include them as well.

The decree did not specify how long the restrictions would last and stated that these measures would be in effect until further notice.
