PalmThe Güell to Lluc walk reaches its 51st edition this Saturday. The iconic route, which begins in Plaça de Güell—at the intersection of Aragó and Torcuato Luca de Tena streets—will begin at 10 p.m. on Saturday and continue into the early hours of Sunday. This year, the organizers hope to reach 10,000 participants. The 48-kilometer route typically lasts between eight and 13 hours and passes through the following municipalities: Marratxí, Santa Maria, Consell, Binissalem, Lloseta, Biniamar, Selva, Caimari, and, finally, Lluc. The entire route is on a paved road. Coaches have also been arranged to travel from Pollença and Alcúdia to Inca for those who wish to depart from that point. The walk can also be started from any of the other municipalities along the route.

To commemorate the 51st anniversary of the event, the Consell de Mallorca distributed 5,000 backpacks and 5,000 T-shirts in early July, which will be distributed among participants. Furthermore, this year the march has been declared an Activity of Municipal Public Interest by the Palma City Council, at the request of the Citizen Protection Association Grup Güell. Those interested in participating can register through the Güell Group website. The registration fee is €10.

Traffic restrictions and bus detours

Palma will experience traffic restrictions and bus line diversions due to the march. According to Europa Press, the EMT diversions will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and will continue until 12:30 a.m. on Sunday.

  • L33 (Son Fuster-Son Espadas)

Traffic cuts

Starting at 6 p.m., Plaça del Güell will be closed, affecting several surrounding streets.

Aragó Street will be closed, along the section with Nicolau de Pacs, towards the Pont d'Inca. Vehicles will be detoured via Nicolau de Pacs Street, Plaza García y Orell, Plaza de Pere Garau, Plaza de Miquel Dols, and Calle de los Reyes Católicos.

Metge Josep Darder Street will also be closed from Plaza Miquel Dols, allowing access only to residents. The intersection between Aragó and Reyes Católicos Streets will be closed in the direction of the city center. Traffic will be diverted via Reyes Católicos Street, which will be exceptionally open in the opposite direction, and will continue via Plaza Miquel Dols, Plaza Pere Garau, and Calle Faust i Morell.

Starting at 10 p.m., the route designated for the march will be closed with new traffic closures. The intersection of Calle Aragó and Calle Prevere Rafael Barrera will be closed, heading toward the city center. Traffic will be diverted to Via de Cintura and Calle Prevere Rafael Barrera itself. The access roads from Via de Cintura to Calle Aragó will also be closed, as well as the section of Calle de los Reyes Católicos between Plaza de Miquel Dols and Calle Aragó.

During the march, in the section between Plaça del Güell and the ring road, participants will occupy both directions of traffic. From the ring road toward Lluc, only the lane toward Pont d'Inca will be occupied, while the lane toward Palma will remain open and accessible.
