The CCOO union will call for limiting energy prices due to the war in Iran and rejects tax cuts.
The union has criticized the fact that the "only recipe" of the "right wing" and business organizations is to lower taxes, but then they ask for public resources to be mobilized to implement different measures.
PalmThe general secretary of the CCOO union, Unai Sordo, expressed his opposition to a "general" tax cut due to the war in Iran and the Middle East, but stated that he will demand limits on energy prices or measures to protect employment and economic activity, if necessary. The union leader indicated that this will be the position CCOO will defend at the meeting it will hold this Thursday with representatives of the Spanish government and other unions to assess possible actions regarding the effects of the conflict.
Thus, he pointed out that action must be taken "in parallel" to the development of events and not "rushed," although he acknowledged that a prolonged and escalating conflict would generate an increase in fuel prices and possible disruptions in supply chains, which would trigger... Sordo criticized the fact that the "only recipe" of the "right wing" and business organizations is tax cuts, but then they ask for public resources to be mobilized to implement different measures, something they considered "incompatible."
"The furlough schemes and benefits for the self-employed during the pandemic represented an investment of 30 billion euros of public money, and you can't have your cake and eat it too. Taking concrete measures on some tax rates is one thing, but CCOO does not support a generalized tax reduction." At the same time, he called for monitoring the effects of this crisis on employment at a "sectoral" level and, if necessary, activating measures to preserve jobs.
