The City Council today begins the process to name Francesc Antich Oliver an Illustrious Son of Algaida

AlgaidaThe Algaida Town Council is scheduled to approve today the initiation of the process to name Francesc Antich Oliver an Illustrious Son of the municipality. This will take place during the regular session, which includes the commencement of the proceedings in accordance with the mayor's report "that accredits the merits and circumstances of Francesc Antich Oliver." With the approval of the initiation of these proceedings, the Councilor for Culture, Francesc Ramis, will also be appointed as the officer in charge of the final file.

Also, in the same session, the date will be set for the extraordinary plenary session to make the official appointment in "a public and honorary recognition."

The former president of the Government of the Balearic Islands and mayor of Algaida died in January 2025. At the tribute organized by his party, the PSIB, in Palma, the mayor of Algaida, Margalida Fullana, announced that the City Council would begin the procedures.

In her speech, Fullana said, "I want to take this opportunity to share some very special news. The governing team of the Algaida City Council, and unanimously the entire municipal corporation, have decided to begin the process of declaring Francesc Antich an Illustrious Son of Algaida this year. Because he is our son, the son of our town."
