The company committee of DomusVi Palma denounces an "unsustainable" situation due to staff shortages
CCOO, UGT and FOL assure that salary precariousness hinders the hiring of personnel and denounce that the workload affects both workers and the quality of care for the elderly
PalmaThe works committee of the DomusVi Palma residence has warned of the "unsustainable situation" experienced by the staff during the summer months and has warned that the economic precariousness of the sector makes it difficult to adequately cover the necessary vacancies. According to the workers' representation, made up of CCOO, UGT, and the Front d'Obrers en Lluita (FOL), this situation directly affects the care received by the residents.
In a joint statement, the committee points out that the summer period has "exponentially" aggravated structural problems that the center has been dragging on for some time, such as the lack of staff, high absenteeism due to the physical and emotional wear and tear of the workers, and working conditions that they describe as "extremely complicated".
The workers' representatives attribute a large part of the difficulties in hiring sufficient and qualified staff to the low salaries in the sector. According to their complaints, the lack of relief forces the staff to take on very long shifts, double shifts to cover the minimum requirements, and workloads that they consider unmanageable.
The committee warns that the consequences of this situation not only affect the center's professionals but also the residents. "Caring with dignity requires time and hands, something that is alarmingly scarce at DomusVi Palma today," they assure.
Faced with this scenario, the workers' representatives have called on the management of DomusVi and the competent administrations to take urgent measures to address the problem structurally and prevent the situation from worsening. According to them, it is necessary to act "before the situation becomes irreversible".
