The government's counselors, one by one: how much money have they spent on travel in 2026

PalmaThe Minister of Education and Universities, Antoni Vera, is the member of the Government with the highest expenditure on official travel among the ministries of the Executive during the year 2026. According to the documentation published on the Transparency Portal, his department had allocated 11,267.49 euros to travel until May 21, the highest figure of the Executive if only the eleven ministries are taken into account. In total, these departments accumulate an expenditure of 45,340.81 euros. If the Presidency is also included, the total amounts to 60,383.58 euros, as the president, Marga Prohens, is the one who registers the highest individual item, with 15,042.77 euros allocated to official travel until June 25.

The second department with the most expenditure is Tourism, Culture and Sports, led by Jaume Bauzà, with 9,038.12 euros invested in travel until April 4th. Completing the podium is the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment, headed by Joan Simonet, with 6,591.70 euros accumulated until July 22, the most recent date of the data published by the Government.

In fourth place appears the second vice-president and Minister of the Presidency, Coordination of Government Action and Local Cooperation, Antònia Estarellas, with 5,211.27 euros until June 3. In this case, the majority of the expense corresponds to a single institutional trip to the Dominican Republic. The seven-day trip cost 4,435.65 euros, that is, more than 85% of the total accumulated by the Ministry. The bill includes accommodation in three hotels, two of which are five-star. Below 4,000 euros is the Minister of the Sea and Water Cycle, Juan Manuel Lafuente, who had accumulated 3,583.20 euros in travel expenses until July 10.

In a second group there are three departments with similar amounts. The Minister of Economy, Finance and Innovation, Antoni Costa, had spent 2,226.12 euros until June 11; the Minister of Labor, Public Function and Social Dialogue, Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro, 2,213.61 euros until the same date, and the Minister of Health, Manuela García, 2,176.96 euros until June 16.

For its part, the Minister of Housing, Territory and Mobility, José Luis Mateo, registers an expense of 1,715.37 euros until June 25, while the Minister of Families, Social Welfare and Dependency Care, Sandra Fernández, had allocated 826.24 euros to official travel until May 7. The lowest figure of all those provided corresponds to the Ministry of Business, Self-employed and Energy, with 490.73 euros until March 3.

Great disparity

The data show important differences between departments. While Education exceeds 11,000 euros in the first five months of the year and Tourism had already surpassed 9,000 euros at the beginning of April, other ministries remain well below 3,000 euros, and in some cases do not even reach 1,000 euros.

It should be taken into account, however, that the comparison has a limitation. The information does not correspond to the same time period in all cases, as each ministry has provided updated data up to a different date. Thus, while in some departments the amounts only reach up to March or April, in others they extend to June or July. For this reason, the figures offer a snapshot of the accumulated expenditure available in each ministry, but not a homogeneous balance for the entire year.
