The new superior prosecutor of the Balearic Islands demands to deepen the protection of the victim
Adrián Salazar said at the swearing-in ceremony that during the judicial process "many times the victim is mistreated and re-victimization occurs"
PalmaThe new superior prosecutor of the Balearic Islands, Adrián Salazar, has demanded this Monday to deepen "the primordial role that the victim has", who is sometimes "mistreated", and in collaboration with the police forces in the face of challenges such as cybercrime and organized crime linked to drug trafficking. Salazar made this call at the ceremony of his swearing-in, which took place today at 12:30 p.m. at the Superior Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands with the presence of the State Attorney General, Teresa Peramato, among other judicial, political, and police authorities.
In statements to the media, he assured that "many times the victim is mistreated, re-victimization occurs, by making her attend various summonses, without fully understanding what is happening in the trial". "Constitutionally, the prosecutor has the duty to defend the victim and especially the most vulnerable people," he stressed.
Transformation of the Prosecutor's Office
The State Attorney General, Teresa Peramato, on Monday in Palma advocated for a "firm and balanced defense of the public interest" by the Prosecutor's Office. "We are in a moment of transformation of the Prosecutor's Office, in which we are asked more than ever for modernization, specialization, cohesion, and a firm and balanced defense of the public interest," she stated.
During the event, Teresa Peramato praised the career of the new superior prosecutor of the Balearic Islands, whom she defined as "solid and exemplary" and, moreover, "completely linked" to the Archipelago. "It is legal solvency, tireless work capacity, emotional intelligence, respect, capacity to generate trust and to generate a team," she underlined, adding that these capacities are "valuable tools to lead, cohere, and make a better Prosecutor's Office".
Peramato also conveyed her recognition to the former superior prosecutor of the Balearic Islands Julio Cano, who left office last January to take up his position as head of the Technical Secretariat of the State Attorney General's Office. "His tenure left a profound mark from a professional and human point of view," she highlighted, while considering that this legacy is "a solid starting point" for the stage that begins today with Salazar.
