PalmThe renovation of the Bunyola-Orient-Alaró highway will entail an investment of 6.1 million euros and will not entail the consumption of additional land. This was stated by the President of the Mallorcan Council, Llorenç Galmés, at the project presentation. He also announced that work will begin at the end of October and is expected to be completed in less than a year.

According to a statement from the Mallorcan Council, the current road is 18 kilometers long, has been in "very poor condition" for decades, and is often used by cyclists. The island institution's technical reports indicate that no comprehensive work has been carried out on this road for more than 25 years.

In addition, a critical section has been detected between kilometers 13 and 14, where the pavement is subsiding due to the poor geotechnical characteristics of the terrain. The solution is to apply specialized ground anchoring techniques using tensioners, specific drainage, and asphalt treatments. "These works have been a long-standing demand from the residents of Bunyola, Orient, and Alaró," said Galmés.

Of the total budget, he explained, two million euros come from the road agreement signed with the government "to compensate for the lack of funding from the Spanish government." The remainder will come from the Consell de Mallorca's secondary road network improvement plan. Galmés also emphasized that the draft project from the last legislative term did not foresee the renovation reaching Alaró, which has been modified to extend the improvement to the town center of this municipality.

Despite being partially located within protected areas of the Natura 2000 Network, such as the Puig de Alaró-Puig de l'Alcadena SAC and the Alfàbia SPA in Biniarroi, the project will have no environmental impact, as it is a consolidation project within the area. The Directorate General for the Natural Environment has also been consulted regarding the potential impact on nesting species, and the Consell de Mallorca has stated that "the established conditions will be strictly complied with."
