PamaResidents of Sóller have launched the 'Salvem Sóller' initiative through Change.org to denounce the proliferation of new parking lots in the municipality. In the campaign, they warn that five parking lots have already been built—with another three in the pipeline—without a clear mobility strategy and with a strong environmental and landscape impact.

According to the promoters, one of the most serious cases is the parking lot at the entrance to Biniaraix, built on farmland and which has involved the felling of dozens of orange trees to place concrete piles. They also criticize the fact that these infrastructures only encourage the massive arrival of private cars—up to 18,000 per day during the high season—and worsen the traffic congestion suffered by residents and visitors.

The promoters of the campaign call on the Sóller City Council and the relevant institutions to halt the creation of new parking lots and to develop a sustainable mobility strategy that prioritizes the protection of the landscape and biodiversity of the Serra. "That's why we've started this petition for change, to rethink what we can really do to avoid the collapse we experience every day, and to reverse the creation of these mega-parking lots," they write.
