PalmThis April has been the fourth warmest recorded in the Balearic Islands since 1961, with an average temperature of 15.9 °C and an anomaly of +1.3 °C compared to usual values, according to the Balearic territorial center of the State Meteorological Agency.

By island, the thermal behavior has been uneven but generally high. In Menorca, April has been described as “extremely warm”, with an average temperature of 16.1 °C, 1.8 degrees above average. In Mallorca it has been “warm”, with 15.9 °C and an anomaly of +1.3 °C, while in Ibiza and Formentera it has also been considered “warm”, with values of 15.8 °C (+0.8 °C) and 16.7 °C (+0.6 °C), respectively.

Several stations have registered records for average monthly temperature. Notable are the 17.1 °C in Llucmajor (with data since 1975) and the 16.9 °C in Es Mercadal (since 1971). The record of 2025 in Son Bonet has also been matched, with 16.9 °C. Regarding maximum temperatures, values close to 29 °C were reached, with 28.9 °C in Binissalem and Ciutadella on April 10, and 28.4 °C in Sant Joan de Labritja on the 9th. In Formentera, the maximum was 24.5 °C on the 22nd. Furthermore, records for average monthly maximum temperature have been broken in several locations, such as Pollença, Palma airport, or Porto Pi.

The lowest minimum temperatures were recorded during the first fortnight. In Mallorca, the lowest value was -0.3 °C in Escorca Son Torrella on the 10th, the only frost of the month. In Menorca, 3.7 °C were recorded, in Ibiza 3.4 °C, and in Formentera 7.1 °C. In contrast, on April 30, records for high minimum temperatures were reached in several parts of Mallorca, with values above 17 °C.

A dry month with little precipitation

Regarding precipitation, April has been dry in the archipelago. On average, 27.4 l/m² have been recorded, 36% less than usual. Mallorca has had a normal performance, while Menorca has been very dry and Ibiza and Formentera, dry.

In Mallorca, 31.9 l/m² (28% less) have accumulated, with maximums in Escorca Son Torrella (100 l/m²) and Lluc (83 l/m²). On the other hand, Palma has been the driest spot, with only 7.6 l/m², 81% below normal. A snowfall episode was also recorded in the Serra de Tramuntana, with thicknesses of up to 10 cm on Puig Major. In Menorca, 12.9 l/m² have fallen (−66%), while in Ibiza 10.4 l/m² (−74%) have been recorded and in Formentera 8.6 l/m² (−63%). Fogs have been present for several days on all islands.

Little wind and a notable episode

The month has been, in general, little windy. At Palma airport, only two days of strong wind were recorded, below the average. In Menorca there were seven, and in Ibiza only two.

The most intense gust occurred on April 1st at the Capdepera lighthouse, with 106 km/h, within the framework of the passage of the storm Erminio. This episode also generated strong waves, with waves of up to 9.8 meters at the Maó buoy. Overall, April confirms the trend of increasingly warmer and drier episodes in the Balearic Islands, in line with the recent evolution of the climate in the Mediterranean.
