Vino de la Tierra Mallorca renews its Regulatory Council and appoints Mateu Morro as its new president
Mateu Morro assumes the presidency of a PGI that brings together 330 winegrowers and 84 wineries from all over Mallorca
PalmVino de la Tierra Mallorca has a new Regulatory Council, the result of the election process that was launched last August to renew the main decision-making body of this Protected Geographical Indication, which includes 330 winegrowers and 84 wineries throughout Mallorca, with 1,923 hectares of vineyards.
The Regulatory Council is made up of eight members, four representing winegrowers and four representing wineries. From now on, the wine sector will be represented by Carl Johan Lidby, from Son Antem winery – with Joan Gutiérrez Cantallops, from Dunord Vitícola, as his alternate; Rafael Montero Silvestre, from Son Juliana winery – with Pere Crespí Ordines, from Microceller Son Crespí, as his alternate; Ramon Servalls Batle, from Macià Batle winery – with Francisca Maria Morey Garau, from Destilerías Antoni Nadal, as his alternate; and Maria Araceli Servera Oliver, from Bodega Ribas – with Francesc Grimalt Oliver, from Apolonia Viticultores, as his alternate.
As for the representatives of the wine sector census, they will be part of the Regulatory Council of Vino de la Tierra Mallorca for the next four years: Llorenç Coll Martorell, from Vinyes Mortitx – with Gaspar Amengual Campins, from Vinum Pro Nobis, as alternate; Juan Manuel Ochogavia Gutiérrez, from the Can Axartell estate – with Isabel Alabern de Armenteras, from Bodega Son Puig, as alternate; Virginia Pons Parra, from Dalt Turó – with Joan Darder Suárez, from Bodegas Can Vidalet, as alternate; and Sebastià Ordinas Capó, from Pla de Buc – with Catalina Moyà Crespí, from the Sebastià Pastor winery, as alternate.
All of them were proclaimed elected members, provisionally, on November 19th and since no allegations have been presented, they have taken possession of their positions definitively in a constitutive session, held at the beginning of December.

With the new Regulatory Council now established, it has proceeded to appoint the main executive position of the PGI, the presidency, which will fall to Mateu Morro Marcé (Santa Maria del Camí, 1956) for the next four years, replacing Magdalena Mesquida in the position.
A graduate in History from the University of the Balearic Islands, Mateu Morro has served as Secretary General of the PSM (Socialist Party of Mallorca), Mayor of Santa María del Camino, and Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries for the Balearic Islands Government. Coordinator of Unió de Pagesos de Mallorca (Farmers' Union of Mallorca) between 2005 and 2013, he was appointed Managing Director of Fogaiba (Balearic Islands Agricultural and Fisheries Guarantee Fund) in July 2019 and, three years later, elected President of the Inter-Island Agricultural Council. Deeply rooted in the region, he is the author of books exploring topics such as the ancient toponymy of Catalan-speaking lands, the rural world, and the modern and contemporary history of the country.
