Vox files an appeal against the decision on the Feixina monolith
The party presents an appeal of height and defense that the monument was already judicially endorsed and has heritage protection
PalmaVox Balears has filed an appeal against the resolution that includes the monolith of La Feixina, in Palma, in the census of Francoist symbols, a step that opens the door to its possible removal. The party has promoted this action, in which the municipal group in the Palma City Council, the parliamentary group and the party's structure in the Balearic Islands have coordinated.
Sources from Vox maintain that this decision does not take into account court rulings that would have already validated the legality of the monument after the re-signification process. Therefore, they consider that the Spanish government would be reopening a matter that had already been closed in the legal sphere. The party criticizes that this debate is being brought up again and interprets it as a decision with a political background. In this regard, it accuses the central government of using these types of actions to reactivate the confrontation surrounding historical memory.
Vox argues that the monolith must be maintained for several reasons. On the one hand, for its historical and architectural interest. On the other hand, because after the modifications made to it, it would no longer have, according to them, a character of exaltation, but of remembrance of the victims of the war. Furthermore, the party points out that it is an element cataloged as a heritage asset, which would grant it specific protection that would make its removal difficult.
Finally, they also point out possible irregularities in the procedure, as they consider that the public hearing process would not have been completed correctly nor would the Consell de Mallorca have been taken into account.
