Water reserves in the Balearic Islands reached 48% in November

PalmWater reserves in the Balearic Islands rose to 48% in November, an increase that has allowed Ibiza to move out of the alert status. In a press release, the Balearic Government's Ministry of the Sea and Water Cycle reported that November ended with an increase in water reserves in the Balearic Islands, reaching 48%, four points higher than the previous month. By island, water reserves rose from 44% to 48% in Mallorca, from 43% to 44% in Menorca, and from 39% to 47% in Ibiza.

Regarding the demand units (DU), widespread increases have been recorded: Menorca, Artà, Manacor-Felanitx, Migjorn, Palma-Alcudia, Tramuntana Nord, Tramuntana Sud, and Ibiza. The largest increase has been in the Migjorn UD, which has returned to normal levels. Ibiza, Manacor-Felanitx, and Tramuntana Sud also show significant improvements, while Formentera is the only UD with a slight decrease. Currently, 16.7% of the territory—Migjorn and Formentera—is in normal conditions, 67.1%—Menorca, Manacor-Felanitx, Palma-Alcúdia, Tramuntana Nord, Tramuntana Sud, and Ibiza—is on pre-alert, and 16.2%—Pla i Art. Thanks to the increase, the Ibiza River Basin District has moved from alert to pre-alert, marking a positive change in the water situation of the Pitiusas Islands. The overall index for the River Basin District stands at 0.396, a lower value than a year ago (0.495) and two years ago (0.454), indicating a moderate improvement compared to previous months. According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), November was a month with generally normal rainfall in the Balearic Islands—70.8 l/m² compared to the usual 94.3 l/m². By island, Mallorca recorded 70 l/m² (normal), Menorca 109 l/m² (wet), Ibiza 37 l/m² (dry), and Formentera 19 l/m² (very dry). Some isolated episodes in Mallorca and Menorca saw torrential downpours lasting only 10 minutes. The year-on-year rainfall average remained at 94%—Mallorca 88%, Menorca 100%, and the Pitiusas Islands 130%. The average temperature for the month was normal, at 14.4 °C, with an anomaly of +0.3 °C. Given the current situation and seasonal trends, bookings are expected to remain at similar levels in December, with no significant changes anticipated.
