Sóller train workers concentrate to denounce lack of safety and demand new protocols
CCOO assures that the staff has filed complaints with the Inspectorate of Labour, Mobility and Emergencies and demands more investment to guarantee the safety of workers and users
PalmaA group of workers from the Sóller train has demonstrated this Saturday in front of the railway station, in Plaça d'Espanya in Sóller, to denounce the lack of safety in the railway infrastructure and demand urgent improvements in prevention and occupational health protocols.
The protest, called by the CCOO union, served to alert of a situation that the workers' representatives describe as "critical" regarding railway traffic safety and employee protection.
During the demonstration, participants displayed banners with slogans such as 'Without safety there is no dignified work', 'We don't want to regret accidents, we want to avoid them', 'Prevention saves lives' and 'Safety protocols now'.
According to the workers' representatives, due to the lack of response from the company's management, several complaints have been filed with the Labor Inspectorate, as well as with the Directorate General of Mobility and the Directorate General of Emergencies, to warn of the risk that, they assure, affects both the staff and the users of the service.
The workers also stated that in recent weeks several incidents have occurred in railway traffic, a situation that, in their opinion, highlights the need to adopt immediate measures to reinforce safety.
Finally, the employees' representatives have called on the management of the Sóller train to take responsibility, to promote the necessary investments and establish adequate protocols that guarantee safe railway traffic, in addition to "safe and dignified" working conditions for all staff.
