Construction of the Sant Antoni battery system advances with an investment of 77 million
These batteries will allow almost doubling the contribution of the current link between Mallorca and Ibiza
PalmaRed Eléctrica, a subsidiary of Redeia responsible for the transport and operation of the Spanish electricity system, is advancing in the construction of the battery system together with the existing Sant Antoni substation (Ibiza), as the Secretary of State for Energy, Joan Groizard, and the president of Redeia, Beatriz Corredor, were able to verify today during a visit to the works.
Corredor highlighted that these batteries, together with those being installed in Menorca, will constitute "the largest system of this type, with batteries fully integrated into the transport network, in the south of the European Union and the first to be installed in Spain.
The Secretary of State for Energy, for his part, pointed out that "this is one of the most important storage facilities in Spain, beyond the Balearic Islands, which is a protagonist of the current Spanish Electricity Plan, with the largest budget of all the autonomous communities".
Integrated into the transport network, these batteries will make it possible to almost double the contribution of the current link between Mallorca and Ibiza, which would go from 100 MW to approximately 190 MW, enhancing system efficiency and energy transition.
Under the current conditions of the interconnected Balearic electricity system, 100% of Ibiza's demand could be met on many days and times of the year with the link. The investment in batteries is 77 million euros, which is added to the 35 million for the infrastructures already in service on the South Axis and the 96 million for the new link between Ibiza and Formentera.
The Sant Antoni batteries complete a series of investments in new electrical infrastructures on the transport network of the Pityusic Islands that Red Eléctrica has recently carried out, in execution of the current electrical planning.z
