12 years of architecture with flip-flops
Pollença Architecture and Design Week, from August 18 to 20, focuses on a combination of eclecticism and specialization.

PalmIn addition to the biennial festival with which Huguet presents its latest projects in Campos—an event that will take place this year this Saturday, August 9th—if midsummer is synonymous with architecture in Mallorca, it's thanks to the Pollença Architecture and Design Week. This well-established event reaches its twelfth edition this year, becoming a benchmark gathering that transcends the archipelago and sparks interest among both industry professionals and the general public.
"A couple of years ago, one of the guests told me that it was a great achievement that in the middle of August we brought together 200 people in Mallorca to talk about architecture, when we have the beach right next door. From there came this concept of architecture with flip-flops that for me defines the proposal of the first editions. This year's will take place from August 18 to 20, and will once again focus on a combination of eclecticism and specialization that has already become one of the distinctive features of the annual event.
The program brings together a handful of professionals from diverse disciplines, who despite working in different fields, share a sensitive perspective on space, design and architecture understood as a transformative tool. "This year we are lucky to have someone like Kersten Geers, from Office, which is one of the most powerful firms in Europe and has worked on projects such as the Aerospacelab factory and the headquarters of the Swiss Radio and Television, in Lausanne, among others. They are highly respected people, with international projection," explains March. Kersten Geers will participate in the first day of the Week, alongside Javier Jiménez Iniesta, founder of the Barcelona workshop Studio Animal, winner of the last two FAD architecture and interior design awards for its radical, fresh, and innovative approach.
The following day, the 19th, it will be the turn of architect Mariona Benedito, one of the curators of the World Architecture Congress that will take place in Barcelona in 2026. "It will be an event that will bring together 10,000 architects from around the world, so the idea is for Benedito to speak to us." The other protagonist on the 19th will be designer Sabine Marcelis, whose work can be seen in museums such as MoMA in New York and who has collaborated with brands such as Dior and Fendi. Her work straddles the border between industrial design and contemporary art, and she is considered one of the most influential creatives of today. By Finally, on the 20th, there will be three speakers linked to Mallorca: the studios Munarq and Isla, as well as designer Marc Morro.
"Since we started, one of our basic axes was to create synergies between professionals here and abroad," says March; "but right now we have a generation of architects that I don't think we've ever seen in Mallorca, who are capable of taking projects to the Venice Biennale, and that makes us very proud. We've put architecture at the center of the conversation, and the credit goes to everyone."
