Quart Creixent officially takes over from Abacus
The Palma bookstore celebrates its 44th anniversary with a cultural event that combines remembrance and a vision for the future.
PalmQuart Creixent officially launched its participation in the project supporting independent bookstores, spearheaded by Abacus and La22 of Girona, this Thursday. The event, held at the bookstore, drew around one hundred people and highlighted the central role of independent bookstores in the cultural life of the island and the country. The initiative had been previously announced and was officially presented to the community this Thursday.
An alliance with cultural value
Anna Nicolau, director of the La22 project, highlighted that "this alliance is not just a business venture, but a cultural and national commitment: independent bookstores are spaces for critical thinking, cohesion and community, and it is necessary to strengthen them in the face of the sector's global challenges."
Amadeu Corbera, on behalf of Quart Creixent, added that "this step allows us to remain true to the bookstore's founding spirit: to defend books and the Catalan language as instruments of transformation. Cooperating to remain independent is more necessary today than ever."
Consolidation of activity in Palma
This new phase coincides with the closure of the Abacus store in Palma, reflecting a desire to concentrate activity on the island through Quart Creixent and reinforcing a cultural project with deep roots and a solid track record.
Tribute and live culture
The celebration concluded with a tribute to the poet Blai Bonet, with the participation of Pau Vadell and Mercè Sancho and the musical accompaniment of Txema González, in an event that combined memory, culture and a vision for the future.
