The Gaudí Year 2026

The Gaudí Year 2026 claims the Cathedral of Mallorca as the "main and only" work of the Catalan architect

La Seu asserts its presence as Gaudí's only work outside of Catalonia with a wide-ranging program of lectures, visits, exhibitions, and cultural and family activities.

PalmThe Cathedral of Mallorca has presented the program for the Gaudí Year 2026, commemorating the centenary of the death of the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí and highlighting the Cathedral as his principal and only work outside of Catalonia. Gaudí's work in Mallorca, between 1904 and 1915, transformed the interior of the temple with a renewal of sacred art in service of faith and liturgy, adapting the heart of the cathedral, the episcopal throne, and the presbytery altar. The project also includes the baldachin over the altar, the lighting renovation, the ceramic mural on the throne, the Chapel of the Holy Trinity, and the liturgical furnishings, all of which demonstrate Gaudí's unique influence on the Cathedral. The Gaudí Year 2026 has been declared an Event of Special Public Interest by the Spanish government and includes the participation of sixteen other buildings where the architect worked, in Catalonia, León, and Cantabria.
