VilafrancaVilafranca de Bonany will kick off the Book Week in the municipality with the celebration of the II Poetic Marathon, which will take place on Friday, April 17, and Saturday, April 18, at Restaurant d’Eliss (Ctra. Palma, 29).

Although many town councils have events and activities underway for the Sant Jordi festival, this event in Vilafranca is, due to its magnitude and participation, one of the most important in Pla de Mallorca. In fact, it will bring together nearly forty people, including poets and reciters, consolidating itself as one of the most outstanding cultural events in the region in this second edition.

The Poetic Marathon will feature the participation of renowned poets and other voices from the island's literary scene, as well as reciters who will perform works by contemporary authors. The sessions will be divided into three thematic blocks: “Eroticism” (Friday afternoon), “Commitment. Language. Land. Nature.” (Saturday morning), and “Life. Existence. Transcendence.” (Saturday afternoon).

The participants on Friday the 17th are: Antoni Cerrato, Júlia Febrer, Tomeu Penya (recited by Guillem d’Efak), Andreu Matamalas, Pere Suau, Llucia Serra, Gaspar Caballero (recited by Jaume Santandreu), Carles El Saure, Àngel Terron, Apol·lònia Rosselló (recited by M.A. Riera), Àngels Cardona, Biel Mesquida.

Magdalena Gelabert, Lluís Maicas, Miquel Monserrat (recited by Joan Alcover) and Maria Antònia Perelló.

This second edition continues the success of last year and is organized by the Vilafranca Town Council with the coordination of Jordi Rosselló, with the support of the Consell de Mallorca. Special collaborators include Obra Cultural Balear, the Danita Huguet Clay Workshop, Librería Embat—which will set up a stall with the publications of the participating authors and offer book signings—and Restaurante d’Eliss, which has provided the venue for the event.

BOOK MARKET

Apart from the marathon, Vilafranca will also host the traditional Book Market with the participation of various local bookstores and entities. It will take place on April 26th in the Plaça Major and, as usual, it concludes the extensive program of the Book Week in the municipality.

The Book Week also includes other cultural activities for all audiences, such as storytelling, family theater, book presentations, book club discussions, and guided tours of the library, all focused on promoting reading and the world of books.
