PalmThe Balearic Islands Government will invest €12.6 million during the 2026-2027 academic year to improve state-subsidized private education and bring it in line with public education. This was announced on Thursday by the Minister of Education and Universities, Antoni Vera, at a press conference. Among the main measures is a reduction of two teaching hours for teachers over 55 years of age, which will benefit approximately 1,200 teachers starting next year. In addition, a salary equalization for vocational training teachers with that of secondary school teachers was announced, with an allocation of €426,000.

An investment of €7.7 million is also planned to hire 146 teachers for the first cycle of Early Childhood Education (ages 0-3). This is in addition to a 2.9% salary increase by 2026 and a total of €15 million to recover outstanding raises, benefiting all teachers in state-subsidized private schools. The Ministry will strengthen the presence of guidance counselors, educational psychologists, tutors, and resources for addressing diversity, as well as recognizing schools with vulnerable students, ensuring they have the same human and financial resources as public schools. Finally, the operating budgets for state-subsidized private schools will increase by 5% to cover non-teaching staff and general operating expenses. According to the Ministry, these measures complement those implemented since 2023, with a cumulative investment exceeding €90 million in state-subsidized private education and more than €250 million in total, including public education.
