Ibicencan herbs arrive in Japan
Participation in a fair in Tokyo evidences the Japanese market's interest in this traditional liquor made in Ibiza
PalmOne of the most emblematic products of the Ibizan gastronomic tradition and the Balearic Islands has crossed borders and reached Japan. The Ibizan herbs from the Marí Mayans firm have participated in the Anuga Japan 2026 fair, in Tokyo, where they have aroused the interest of professionals and visitors in one of the most demanding markets in the world.
The heads of the family business, Bartolomé and Carlos Marí Mayans, traveled to Japan to present the product in the Spanish pavilion, with the support of the Chamber of Commerce of Ibiza and Formentera and the seal of Craftsmanship of Ibiza. The brand, with more than a century of history and currently in its fifth generation, produces the herbs on the island following recipes dating back to the 19th century.
One of the aspects that most caught the attention of visitors was the aromatic profile of the liqueur, which generated various sensory interpretations even before tasting. Some attendees associated the aroma with elements such as the sea breeze or fields in bloom, while others identified aniseed and sweet notes.
Participation in Anuga Japan has also highlighted the Japanese market's interest in this type of product, especially due to its versatility. Ibizan herbs have not only been presented in their traditional consumption but also in combinations with soft drinks, infusions, or other liquors, an adaptability that can facilitate their introduction into different spheres, from everyday consumption to mixology.
It is worth remembering that Marí Mayans Ibizan herbs were recognized as the best spirituous beverage with Geographical Indication in 2025 at the Alimentos de España Awards, granted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, an award that endorses the quality and value of this traditional product.
