The Balearic PP, after Mazón's resignation: "Pedro Sánchez is taking too long to resign"
The left says the resignation of the Valencian president "comes too late"
PalmNeither the government of Marga Prohens nor the Balearic PP had been critical until now of the Valencian regional president Carlos Mazón's handling of the DANA storm. The PP spokesperson in the Balearic Parliament, Sebastià Sagreras, also remained critical on Monday, stating that he "understands" and "respects" Mazón's decision to resign. He further emphasized that, in his view, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez should also resign "as the highest-ranking official in the state administration with management responsibilities." "He is calling for resignations," he insisted.
Sagreras has also expressed his "sadness" at the "vehemence" with which the spokespeople of the left have spoken about Valencian, and has recalled the flash flood that took place in Sant Llorenç des Cardassar in 2018, where thirteen people died, when Francinaeng was in power. "A catastrophe of this magnitude has no positive consequences, nor does it open any easy path," Sagreras said. "But the resignations of the president of the Júcar River Basin Authority, Miguel Polo, and those responsible for issuing warnings about the Poio ravine or those who were supposed to carry out the necessary works are sorely missed." According to the Popular Party representative, the Spanish government was not "diligent" in sending aid to the Valencian Community, and he recalled that Sánchez transferred the responsibility for managing the situation to the Valencian administration. The Vox spokesperson in Palma, Fulgencio Coll, expressed similar sentiments, stating that "before" Mazón's resignation, "Sánchez's resignation would have been necessary." For him, Sánchez is "the one most responsible for this tragedy."
The left says the resignation "comes too late"
The spokesperson for the PSIB, Iago Negueruela, considered the Valencian president's announcement "too little, too late" and a reflection of the PP's "chaos" throughout Spain. "He couldn't continue in office and has left in the worst possible way," he lamented, noting that in the institutions where the PP governs with Vox, "there is instability, a lack of responsibility, gridlock, and a crisis in management." "The Valencian Community is experiencing enormous instability, Extremadura is going to elections, and Aragon doesn't know if it will do the same because it also has a massive gridlock affecting all its parliamentary activity," he continued. "First, they submitted to Vox's demands, and then, year after year, we see how they accumulate disastrous management of public affairs, and now they're heading for elections," he insisted.
Meanwhile, the leader of MÉS per Mallorca, Lluís Apesteguia, has accused the President of the Government, Marga Prohens, of being "co-responsible" for the pain caused to the victims of the DANA storm by "applauding and remaining silent" in the face of Mazón, whom he has defined as "one of the most inept and indecent people and politicians."
