PalmThe Balearic Government has awarded the 2026 Gold Medal of the Balearic Islands to Mallorcan singer-songwriter Jaume Anglada. This was announced by the First Vice President and Minister of Economy and Finance, Antoni Costa, who explained that the artist will receive the award at a ceremony on February 28th at the Lonja in Palma. Born in Palma in 1972, Anglada has a long and distinguished artistic career. Among his most notable projects is the artistic duo he formed with actress Carolina Cerezuela. Last August, he suffered a serious accident: a car hit him while he was riding his motorcycle, leaving him in a coma for several days. He gradually recovered his health. The Government believes he deserves the award after a professional career in which he has combined "tradition and innovation" and linked island musical roots with other contemporary sensibilities. Costa also emphasized his commitment "to the cultural dissemination of the region and beyond."

Meanwhile, Costa announced the fifteen winners of the 2026 Ramon Llull Prize: the Association of Friends of the Railway, Levante en Marcha, Eugeni Aguiló (posthumously), Albert Rores, Margalida Jordán (of the Naüm Project), Banca March, Joan Oliver 'Maneu' Ibicenco, Juan Bautista Costa, the Balearic Islands Football Federation, Laura Pons, Esperanza Cladera, Maria Teresa Llull, and Miquel Bordoy. At the press conference following the Governing Council meeting, Costa explained that President Marga Prohens had already contacted all the award recipients to inform them of her decision.
