The PP and Vox leave the debate on vehicle limitation for autumn
The left had asked to speed up procedures by enabling extraordinary sessions
PalmaThe left wing requested that an extraordinary plenary session be held to carry out the first debate on the limitation of vehicles in Mallorca in Parliament. Thus, the procedures to approve the law were accelerated, based on a text registered by the Council. But the PP and Vox have decided to impose their majority and postpone the debate until September.
The Chamber must process the bill, which was initially approved by the Council with the favorable vote of all groups except Vox. This season, the vehicle limitation will not yet have come into effect. However, the PSIB proposed to speed up the procedures with two extraordinary sessions between July 22 and 31 and between September 1 and 6 so that the initiative – promoted by the popular Llorenç Galmés – is approved as soon as possible. But the PP and Vox have opposed it.
The PSIB deputy Amanda Fernández has regretted this decision, as well as insisting that starting to process the law is necessary to "alleviate" the roads of Mallorca. "Mallorcans can no longer stand congested roads and traffic jams," added Ferran Rosa of MÉS per Mallorca.
However, the PP considers this attempt by the socialists to speed up the processing by several weeks a gesture, because the processing of the norm is long and can wait to be done through ordinary channels. The spokesperson for the popular group, Sebastià Sagreras, has railed against the "inaction" of the left and has claimed that the norm originates from an initiative of the PP in the insular Council. He has also guaranteed that it will be definitively approved before Christmas and the limitation will come into force in the summer of 2027, when the next regional elections have already taken place.
Cañadas accuses the left of "electoral urgency"
For their part, Vox spokesperson Manuela Cañadas has considered the left-wing proposal an "electoral and cosmetic emergency". "Legislating in a hurry in July will not take a single car off the roads in August," she insisted. Meanwhile, Josep Castells of Més per Menorca pointed out the "tactics" from both the PP and the PSIB.
