Feijóo, irresponsible

PalmaAlberto Núñez Feijóo's latest move, which he is currently preparing, should go wrong for him. The PP leader's electoral moves usually go wrong, and this one, which might turn out well for him, is the one that definitively demonstrates the extent to which his irresponsibility can reach. Feijóo, who has never known what to do to govern Spain and has not considered leaving even though the vast majority of his own have voted for him with their noses held, has now understood that if he wants to be president, the one who will have to govern –behind him or by his side– is Santiago Abascal. And he does not care, he no longer hides it.

Feijóo is curious. For years he explained to us that Vox was a problem. Now he seems to have discovered that the problem is that he is not president. And, faced with this problem, any solution seems good to him. Even the one that used to bother him so much. But this is not just a question of pacts. It is a question of consequences. When a party like the PP opens the door to Vox, it is accepting that the extreme right will be able to decide on rights, memory, immigration, equality, language, culture, education, and the environment. And then we will see who is in charge.

This is what has happened, with all the differences, with Milei in Argentina (with whom Abascal was celebrating these days in the pathetic video call that everyone has been able to see), Trump in the United States, Meloni in Italy, and Netanyahu in Israel. And watch out for France and Le Pen. It is not necessary for all these rulers to be the same to understand what they have in common and how they govern the world. In the Balearic Islands, we have a very glaring example. Le Senne tore up, in the Parliament he presides over, the image of women raped and murdered by fascists and, just recently, he published that if Vox failed, it was likely that we would not have any other democratic elections again. What does Feijóo need to understand who he wants to govern with? Perhaps he understands it perfectly, and that is even more worrying.

The world in the hands of these people is scary. In fact, every day it is scarier precisely because of these people. Thus, now I wonder if that fear of Vox's entry that in so many pre-campaigns had made Feijóo deny any complicity or future pact with the extreme right will remain among the popular voters in the coming elections. I would like to think so. Perhaps Feijóo's problem is that, in wanting so much to reach the Moncloa, he has forgotten that not everyone who votes for him wants to get there at any price.
