Amanda Fernández announces candidacy for the Consell de Mallorca
The general secretary of the Socialist Federation of Mallorca centers her speech on the defense of the territory, the language and social rights
PalmThe general secretary of the Socialist Federation of Mallorca, Amanda Fernández, announced this Tuesday her candidacy to lead the PSIB list for the Consell de Mallorca in the 2027 elections.
The socialist, currently a deputy in the Parliament of the Balearic Islands, made the move public through a video on social media, where she assured that the decision responds to her "commitment" to Mallorca and the need to build "a project of hope, progress, and future".
Fernández has advocated for her “deep bond” with the island and has placed the native language as one of the central pillars of her discourse. “Our language is part of who we are and today it needs to be defended against those who want to sideline it,” she stated.
The socialist leader also argued that Mallorca needs “a prepared, committed team with the desire to build an alternative,” and emphasized that her career has been marked by culture, education, and sports, three areas that, as she said, have defined her way of understanding public service.
In this regard, she advocated for her teaching vocation: “I understand teaching as a profession that helps build a better future; this is also how I understand politics.”
Fernández warned of the difficulties faced by many Majorcans, especially young people, and defended the right of working families and the elderly to “live and age with dignity” in Mallorca. She also focused on the protection of the territory against a model that, in her opinion, “puts it at risk.”
The process of selecting candidates within the PSIB began this week, after the Federal Committee of the PSOE set the primary calendar last Saturday. The party plans to choose candidates for the Parliament, the insular councils, and municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants this July.
