Palma"We will be alongside the workers of the Islands to pressure, demand, and call for bold measures for the citizens of this land". With these words, the spokesperson for Ara Més, Carme Gomila, asked for the vote this Monday, in the first appearance of the representatives of the Ara Més-Front Ampli coalition that is running in the general elections. The candidacy brings together seven political formations: MÉS per Mallorca, Més per Menorca, and Ara Eivissa in the Ara Més federation, and Sumar, Esquerra Unida, Progreso en Verde, and Recortes Zero as part of the Front Ampli.

As ARA Balears advanced, they will present themselves with a ballot that incorporates the logo of each of the parts of the coalition. After closing the agreement for the coalition in extremis last Friday evening, this has been the first press conference of the coalition. Representatives from various parties attended: Noemí Garcia, from Més per Menorca; Lluís Apesteguia, from MÉS per Mallorca; Gomila, coordinator of Ara Més; Marisa Lucas, from Sumar, and Ana Ordóñez, coordinator of Esquerra Unida. After Podemos was left out of the coalition despite intense negotiations between the parties throughout last week, Gomila assured in a press conference that they will try to integrate the purple party in some way. A possible formula would be to include names from the formation on the lists.

"The citizenry is tired of hearing about party infighting", continued the spokesperson: "They are asking for solutions, answers, and we are here to tell them that the answer is Ara Més-Front Ampli". "They will find a ballot that wants to defend them", she stated. The spokesperson insisted on one of the federation's mantras, which is that their presence in Congress puts the Balearic Islands at the center. "The citizens of the Islands live in a permanent injustice simply because we are islands", she continued: "We want to generate hope, enthusiasm, joy, we risk losing many things, but we must be capable of changing the narrative".

In this sense, she outlined the axes of the campaign. "We will not shy away from talking about housing, the cost of living and insularity", she explained: "It is deeply unfair that we have to live distressed, suffocated". She also launched a dart against the Spanish government of PSOE and Sumar: "It has not been brave enough to try to knock down the interests of vulture funds, and until they saw that their seat was in danger they did not want to put brave measures on the table".

Next step: choose the candidate

The next step is to choose the head of the list. The deadline ends next Monday. For now, the only official confirmation is that the number one for the Balearic Islands will come from the Ara Més space, and not from Front Ampli. From here on, the federation's executive must debate the options. For now, in the running are both Gomila herself and the current Sumar-MÉS deputy in Congress, Vicenç Vidal, both from MÉS per Mallorca. "The list is made by the federal council of Ara Més, and it is a collegiate decision," pointed out the leader of the eco-sovereignists, Lluís Apesteguia. In this sense, he pointed out, however, that the head of the list could also be from Més per Menorca or Ara Eivissa: "There is no pre-eminence of any formation".
