PalmaProgreso en Verde criticized the Palma City Council this Monday for maintaining the horse-drawn carriage service despite the orange weather alert for storms, a decision that, according to the animal rights platform, puts the animals in danger and contradicts the protocols announced by the Mobility Department to suspend activity in the face of adverse weather phenomena.

In a statement, the group directly pointed to the Mobility Councilor, Antonio Deudero, and questioned why the service had not been stopped while other preventive measures, such as the suspension of classes, had been adopted. According to Progreso en Verde, the situation being experienced on the streets of Palma "demonstrates absolute lack of protection and serious negligence" on the part of the City Council.

The president of the platform, Guillermo Amengual, considered that the City Council "prioritizes economic profit over animal welfare and citizen safety." In this sense, he reproached the City Council for allowing the carriages to circulate on a day marked by forecasts of intense rainfall and storms.

The platform also claimed that the Local Police had not received instructions to suspend them despite the weather warnings. Amengual branded as "shameful" the fact that the activity is maintained under these conditions and warned that some drivers of these animal-drawn vehicles have "ignored" the warnings.

Progreso en Verde maintains that the maintenance of the service contradicts previous statements by the Mobility Department, in which, according to the group, strict protocols had been announced to suspend activity when weather conditions were adverse.
