Miquel Oliver announces the candidacy to lead MÉS at the Consell de Mallorca
The mayor of Manacor makes the leap to supramunicipal politics positioning himself as one of the main assets of the eco-sovereignists
PalmaThe mayor of Manacor, Miquel Oliver, confirmed this Thursday his candidacy to lead MÉS per Mallorca in the Council. As reported by ARA Balears, the eco-sovereigntist is making the leap to supramunicipal politics after three terms at the head of the town hall, the last one improving electoral results in a context of general decline of the left in the Islands. In a Facebook post, Oliver explained that he will be partnering with Marta Català, Secretary of Finance of the party.
"We are presenting ourselves in the MÉS per Mallorca primaries to lead the candidacy for the Council," he explained in the publication: "We do so with the conviction that Mallorca needs a clear, brave, and useful voice." Oliver has claimed his experience, insisting that he comes "from management, from direct contact with citizens, and from understanding politics as a tool to improve people's lives." The Manacorí has committed to "defending the land, public services, and the right of Mallorcans to live with dignity in every town" and to maintaining a "feminist perspective." In the same vein, he has considered that the Islands are facing a "decisive moment": "Saturation, access to housing, pressure on the territory, and inequalities threaten the quality of life for many people." Therefore, he said, "we must build alternatives and lead changes."
