City Council closes public parks and suspends the Open Playgrounds program due to storms

Aemet activates the orange warning and foresees the most complicated period between Thursday dawn and Friday evening

PalmaPalma City Council has closed the Ribera park and the Can Terrers park since this Wednesday at 1:00 PM, and for as long as the alert decreed for rain remains active. Likewise, the Sagrera promenade will be closed starting at 12:00 AM and Bellver park from 9:00 PM. The Open Playgrounds program has also been suspended.

For its part, the UIB has also suspended outdoor activities, field trips, and activities in the marine environment since 1:00 PM due to the orange alert for heavy rain. The inauguration event for the Nature Classroom, scheduled for 4:00 PM, has also been cancelled.

The Balearic Islands are once again on alert for storms and downpours. Aemet forecasts an especially complicated episode of instability starting Thursday and has already activated warnings for rain and storms for this Wednesday, with a maximum orange level.

Precipitation may leave more than 50 liters per square meter in one hour, while storms may be accompanied by wind gusts exceeding 90 km/h.

According to Aemet, showers may already occur locally this Wednesday, but the most complicated period will begin during the early hours of Thursday and will last until Thursday evening. For Thursday, the agency also maintains the orange warning for storms, heavy rain, and coastal phenomena.
